Water is fundamental to human survival. It also continues to be one of the biggest health threats to more than 660 million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America who still don’t have access to safe drinking water. 80% of disease and death in the global south is water-related. 50% of the hospital beds in these countries are occupied by people suffering from waterborne diseases, such as diarrhea, cholera and typhoid. We at Helioz believe that it is time to put an end to this with a simple solution. The WADI.

WADI is a solar powered UV-measurement device that serves as an indicator for the process of solar water disinfection. It provides households, schools and communities in the global south with one of the most cost-effective ways to enjoy access to safe water for many years to come, using nothing other than WADI and the power of the sun.

WADI optimizes the SODIS-Method of disinfecting water by filling it into used PET-bottles and exposing them to the sun. The device measures the concentration of the sun and thus can calculate and indicate the progress of disinfection.

Each WADI has a guaranteed lifetime of two years. It is environmentally friendly and needs neither batteries nor chemicals, filters or spare parts. It also needs no maintenance and it is dust-, shock- and water-proofed. To avoid them to become garbage after lifetime, we promote collection-methods and mortgage systems.

WADI is approved and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) for providing high protection against bacteria and protozoa, showing reasonable results with Viruses and being the only effective solution on the market against protozoa like Cryptosporidium. It has also been successfully tested by reknowed laboratories in Austria, El Salvador, Ethiopia, South Africa, Thailand and Uganda

WADI is not only technically approved, it proves its efficiency in real-world-operation every day: waterborne diseases decrease by more than 80%, the use of CO2-emitting firewood reduces by up to 60%.

Compared to other water-disinfection methods in use, WADI is the most efficient, reliable and affordable product.
